Web Developer – Front End

Position Summary – The Opal Health Informatics Group at the Research Institute of the MUHC is looking for a qualified front-end developer to join our development team. You will be responsible for building the ‘client-side’ of our award-winning Opal application (opalmedapps.com) which empowers patients with access to their health information.

You are a tech-savvy professional with experience in leveraging the latest digital technologies to optimize web applications for efficiency and scalability, while maintaining a visually appealing design to ensure a great user experience. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills allows you to translate business requirements and patient needs into a functional and patient-first focused application.
General Duties:

  • Use markup languages like HTML to create user-friendly web applications
  • Optimizing web applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Ensuring web design is optimized for mobile-based devices
  • Develop features to ensure great user experience
  • Ensuring user experience determines design choices
  • Translate UI/UX design wireframes to actual code
  • Assist to update or tweak mockups and prototypes as needed
  • Write reusable code and libraries
  • Collaborate with back-end developers and web designers to improve usability
  • Help back-end developers with troubleshooting efforts
  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency
  • Participate in writing functional requirement documents and guides
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies
Requirements:

  • Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent Minimum 3 years experience as a Front-end developer
  • Strong proficiency with HTML, JavaScript, AngularJS, CSS and jQuery
  • Knowledge of Flutter and Dart
  • In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)
  • Knowledge of graphic design applications and content management systems
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience with browser testing and debugging
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of healthcare IT system requirements are an asset
Working Conditions:

Status: Temporary, Full-time, 12-month contract, renewable
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education & work experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday (35-hour workweek)
Work Site: McGill University Health Centre site (rimuhc.ca/careers)
